Fashionable Notes

Left Card: Knitted Jacket and Skirt
Center Card: Shell Bikini w/ Grass Skirt
Right Card: Wedding Dress w/ Veil

While I was studying abroad in Cordoba, Spain a little over two years ago, my Aunt Susan came to visit me. It was such a pleasure sharing my experience with her - even if it was only for a few days. After visiting with me, she ventured all over the country and while in Barcelona, Susan found a woman who sold the most extraordinary fashionable notecards. She bought a few - and sent a few (I got one while I was still in Spain!) Let's just say she was inspired. When Susan returned to sunny California, she got to thinking and finally created her own line of fashionable notecards - Tia Suzanna's.

Meet Celebrity Stylist Anya Sarre

After interning for the Wardrobe Department at CBS's Entertainment Tonight and The Insider, I sat down one-on-one with celebrity stylist, Anya Sarre.

From a young age, Anya knew she wanted to pursue a career that combined fashion and entertainment - something that's not easy to come by. With a lot of work and Anya's "relentless perseverance" her dream came true. She received her Bachelor's degree from USC and continued her education at Parsons The New School for Design. "I was a sloppy gluer," Anya chuckled, "but I was a natural born draper."

FNO LA

On Friday, Sept. 10th, retailers, designers and fashion lovers from all over the world - New York and Los Angeles to China and Australia - took part in this "global initiative." The goal of Fashion's Night Out was to revitalize the fashion industry by making shopping accessible to people just like you and me. Of course, I had to see what all the buzz was about. My friend and I headed to The Grove - a.k.a the shopper's Disneyland - and witnessed first hand one small fraction of this worldwide event. We headed straight to Nordstrom where Blake Mycoski, the founder of TOMS shoes, was posing for pictures and promoting his "One for One" motto. (For every pair of shoes purchased a pair is donated to a child in need - I have a pair and absolutely love them!) Not even the economy could keep shoppers away from this exciting one-night event. The purpose of FNO was to celebrate the fashion industry and instill a feeling of security for the future of the economy. Well, I think it worked because it sure felt like a party to me! FNO gave fashionistas across the world an opportunity to take part in something BIG. Something FASHIONTASTIC. It rejuvenated the world of fashion from the inside out. So my followers, how did you take part in FNO? I can't wait until FNO 2011!

Buy something new(ish) if you're Jewish...and even if you're not!

Today is the beginning of the Jewish New Year - so Happy New Year my fellow Jews! I woke up and prayed this morning - not to the man upstairs - to the fashion Gods. I think the Jews have it right: planning their new year around the same time Fall rolls around. Fall is when the little kiddies go back to school and more importantly, when the biggest issues of the hottest magazines hit newsstands and when the runways are in full force. It's the biggest time of the year for designers - so I hope you go out and buy a fresh piece of fashion for this Fashion New Year. It's always nice to start off the new year with a new addition to your wardrobe. Whether it be an accessory, a camel coat, or a pair of shoes, I hope you find something great for this new year. So let's shop like it's 5771! What will your something new be? Here's my something new - and it's by my fav designer, Marc Jacobs! (Thanks, Carol!)

Where Fashion meets the Ocean

This weekend a few of my friends from college ventured to the LA area for some R&R from their busy San Fran lives. We got an early start on Saturday and headed for Santa Monica. Santa Monica Place, that is. This new outdoor shopping sanctuary opened just weeks ago and it truly is a destination for fashionistas from near and far. Yes, it has Burberry and Louis Vuitton, but there's something about this place that screams casual - in a sophisticated way. It could be the ocean breeze sweeping through the open-air walkways or the mere fact that you can get your tan and your shop on in a matter of hours. Whatever it is, Santa Monica Place stole my fashion heart. And, my stomach too. The dining terrace - which over looks the pacific ocean - offers a wide range of food choices. From tacos to sushi and gourmet to specialty desserts - you will not go hungry! Santa Monica Place is more than just a mall, it's a destination where anyone can enjoy beautiful designs - architecture included. I can't wait to go back to this beach-inspired, 3rd Street Promenade adjacent fashion experience. If you're in the LA area, go check out Santa Monica Place and let me know what you think!
