Black Friday

On the biggest shopping day of the year when people form lines at 5 in the morning for the door buster deals, I was still asleep. For someone who loves shopping as much as I do, you'd think I'd understand the crazies who do this, but it honestly baffles me. Who wants to sleep on a sidewalk in cold weather? I guess it matters to some. Don't worry, I didn't stay home all day. My friend and I made our way to the mall around lunch time. We were afraid we would have to put up a major fight in the parking lot, but we had the parking fairy on our side and found a spot within five minutes. Lucky us! The crowds weren't as bad I was expecting. We actually were able to walk into some stores and try things on! Did you know Victoria's Secret sells jeans in the store now? Well, they do. And they were on sale! So of course I had to buy two pairs. Then there was a sale at The Gap where the sweaters were buy get one free. Good deal! The only issue we had was finding a place to sit and eat our lunch. Maybe it was because we decided to eat when everyone else in the mall decided to. But we finally find a spot to kick up our heels and refuel. We put in a good four hours and helped boost the failing economy. So you're welcome economy!

These boots are made for walking

...and that's just what they'll do. Finally, I broke down and got brown boots...and they're just the one's I've been wanting too. After ordering two other pairs of boots and becoming friends with Jessica, the SF Steve Madden store manager, I found the pair I wanted at none other than Nordstrom - my happiest place on Earth. They're the perfect fit, color, and they were even on sale! Boots are hard to find if you have a specific style in mind. My roommate had the same issue with a pair of black boots, but finally she found the perfect pair...just as I did! This just proves that shopping is a sport. You have to have the stamina, the game plan, and you can't be a poor sport if you loose. Just know that next time, you're in it to win it! So when people ask me what my favorite sport is, of course I say shopping.

I left my heart in San Francisco

My dear blog followers, I have fallen in love. Not with a boy, but with a city. A city of hills, too much traffic, and with the best shopping (next to New York City). My roommates and I ventured out into San Fran with our credit cards in hand and our walking shoes on. I'd like to think we were professional shoppers on a mission. We set out in search of boots, jeans, jackets, and anything else that sparked our eye. There's something about shopping that gives me energy and keeps me going...is that crazy? I'm like a kid in a candy store. We spent hours roaming the city, the stores, and even a few restaurants until we well...dropped. It was a successful shopping experience and I'd love to go again...who's on board?

My Favorite T

I've been meaning to write about this Tee for some time now, and now I finally have the time to do so. The shirt is by Kain Label and it's the softest most comfortable shirt I have ever owned. It's great for everyday and for going out; in fact, just the other day I wore it to class, then threw on some nice black pants and a nice jacket for the evening. It's made from modal and silk, and it comes very close to wearing butter on your body! The company's innovator and designer is a family friend and I'm very proud to not only know her, but to wear her this amazing t-shirt. Everyone has their most comfortable article of clothing, and I think this just be at the top of my list. If you'd like to know more about Kain Label, just go ahead and ask!

Rockin' the Romper

Thanks to my lovely friend Erin, I was introduced to the romper. Some may call it a "onesey" but no matter what you call it, it's a great fashion forward piece to own. No need to dig through your closet for a matching outfit because with the romper you have an entire outfit all in one. The romper comes in all different styles, from patterned to solid and long sleeve to strapless. It's a very versatile piece and can be worn for a night out on the town for a friend's birthday (like in the picture) or for just a day at the beach. It's an extremely comfortable piece of clothing, but the only complaint I have is it becomes very difficult when nature calls, so plan accordingly. They're in all the stores from Nordstrom to Target, so rock your very own romper!

My New Obsession

So for those of you who don't know me, when I want something, I really really want it and will go to the end of the Earth to get it. My latest fashion craving is what my cousin, and probably everyone else, likes to call "hair flair." I think it's a great accessory, especially if you have large hair like me. My cousin let me have one of hers, but it just wasn't enough. So this past weekend I dragged my roommate to the mall in search of the ultimate "hair flair." We searched high and low, near and far, but sadly, all I got was a headband with a large purple flower. The flower is great, but the headband has to go. I did not feel satisfied with my purchase, and will have to keep searching for the greatest "hair flair" that ever existed. I guess it's true, and that I'm always one purchase away from perfection. So for now, I am in love with "hair flair" what are you in love with?

No matter how old you are; you are never too old to get married. This weekend my aunt and her fiancĂ© tied the knot after knowing each other for what he claims to be thirty years. It was the first time for both of them to become Mr. and Mrs., and I could not be happier. You could say it wasn’t the most traditional of weddings because my aunt wore a gorgeous blue outfit, but it was one of the happiest occasions I have ever celebrated. My cousins and I were her bridesmaids; with matching dresses and our hair up in curls we stood by her side as she became Mrs. Shaffer. We posed for pictures and greeted friends and family with the biggest smiles we may have ever produced. It came time for the party; and what a party it was. From the most delicious food and delectable cake to the rock and roll music and kind words that were said, I have never been happier for two people to start a life together. So no matter how old you are love looks the same; it doesn’t care what you look like or what you do for a living, sometimes it just hits you. I hope love finds you and let’s you celebrate the joining of two lives with one big bang of a party!

Operation Beautiful

I found about this website today, operationbeautiful.com, and think it's such a great idea! Everyone should feel beautiful no matter what they look like, so why not join in and tell women around the world one post-it at a time. It doesn't take a lot, and that's what so great about it. Just a little yellow post-it stuck on a bathroom mirror in a restaurant or in the dressing room of a clothing store could brighten anyone's day. Actually, my roommate and I do this to some degree and write messages to each other on our bathroom mirror. It really makes my day that much better, so why not do it for the world. You are not only making the woman who reads the note feel better about herself, but you will feel better about yourself as well. Even if it's one post-it a week or even one a month, it will go a long way. So throw a pad of post-its in your purse, and when you're in the bathroom at Nordstrom, work, or even campus, make a strangers day and tell them they're beautiful! Let me know how it goes!

My Favorite Piece

For some it’s a little black dress or your great-grandmother’s pearl necklace, for others it’s those leather boots you bought in Italy or the vintage Chanel purse you found at a garage sale. Whatever the item may be, everyone has their favorite piece of fashion that makes them feel like they own the world. For me, it’s most anything that is printed with a leopard pattern. Just take a look in my closet and you’ll find a sweater, a pair of heels, a dress, a top, a bathing suit, and even a belt with the fun, flirty animal print. Of course, it can’t just be anything leopard print; it has to be tasteful, classy, and fun. Wearing clothing and accessories with the animal print on it gives me that little boost of confidence and energy that every girl needs whether they’re out for a night on the town or lounging by the pool. Leopard print is in a way a part of who I am, so wearing an item makes me feel almost at ease, and gives me passion to create a style of my own. Whether or not it has something to do with a past life of mine or a minor obsession, all of my friends and family know me as the “leopard loving lady.” It makes me proud to know that I have a signature piece of fashion that adds to my character. Whenever I put on an item that is leopard print, I somehow feel transformed into a sophisticated 21 year old that is ready for anything, and will have fun doing it. So if you have a love for fashion, you understand that everyone needs their favorite piece to help them become their true self. So what's your favorite fashion item?

EricaWelcome to Communicashion! It is here where I plan to communicate with you, my lovely blog followers, about my love of fashion, my passion for life, and my friends and family. So sit back, relax, and enjoy communicashion!

Here's a little something about me:

For me, the world of fashion is more than just the fabric that clothing is made out of, but rather how each person expresses their individual style. It’s the culture from which you stem that gives you the freedom to wear your most comfortable pair of jeans or the religious head covering that is a sign of respect. It’s learning not only about how the fashion industry has been flourishing, but what can be done in the here and now to keep it flourishing.

I have always been intrigued by both the writing world and fashion world, so my ultimate goal is to combine my interests and possibly work at the New York headquarters of Vogue or W. Ever since I was a little girl; I have had a love for learning about the fashion industry. Now as a senior at UC Davis I have been exposed to textile and clothing classes that I believe will be a benefit to my future goal of working at a well-known high fashion magazine. While becoming a high-fashion editor is a dream of mine, I know that having a sturdy background in textiles as well as writing and communicatiosn will be a huge asset when I’m applying for that once in a lifetime experience that will let me have an office that over looks the New York City skyline.
